Sample Lesson Plan/Project: Portrait Photography

Students in the Art Media class learned some valuable skills while creating their portrait posters.   This was a dynamic unit that asked them to look at portrait photography from a new lens.  They were asked, "How can portrait photography go deaper than just capturing a likeness?  How can it make universal meaning?"  The classroom was then transfolrmed into a studio where students split up into small groups and photographed one another.  The photographs were then brought into Photoshop where they became Empowerment Posters. The goal of the assignment was to use portraits of one another to communicate valuable character traits.  These posters were hung up during Tulip Festival.
